Reason #1.
Actually, you probably guessed this one already. Because I’m there! I love working out and I like to think that when I’m teaching Body Pump and/or RPM, the Martin you see on stage is the one you meet on the gym floor/car park/supermarket. Real people … that’s what you’ll meet at JG.
Reason #2.
Here’s the killer reason. From August 1st, your membership covers all group fitness classes including RPM (spin). Other gyms are charging at least $5 per class for RPM. So now, all you pay is your annual/monthly/weekly membership fee!
Reason #3.
Parking! There are a whole lot more FREE CAR PARKS to the north behind the gym.
We don’t need another reason to not go to the gym
Reasons 2 & 3 came to me when the lovely Suzi came back from the gym (a different one to mine) and she was a little upset. There were no free parks left, so she parked on a meter& paid her $6. She paid another $6 and did her RPM class. She did a workout/warmdown after class. Got back to her car and had a $12 parking ticket!
So thats $6 + $6 + $12 = $24 for one RPM class. Not to mention the $20+ per week that she pays for membership. If she was to do 2 more RPM classes and get free parking that would be $36 for the weeks RPM and chuck in the weekly gym membership of $20, thats $56! Pretty bloody expensive, did I mention that she also does Pump twice a week as well?
Actually, I’m not but Jenkins Gym is looking for a new Group Fitness Co-ordinator.
You need to be able to teach at least 2 pre-choreographed or freelanced programs and have some experience in people management and coaching skills.
There are more details about the position on trademe.
The Gym currently has about 20 instructors and provides the following Les Mills programmes.
- Body Pump

- Body Attack
- RPM
- Body Balance

We launched the new Less Mills releases on Saturday and this week is a new-release-fest with every class promoting the new music and choreography. I wasn’t invloved in the RPM launch because I was doing Pump but have taught RPM 43 four times since Sunday. I think I’m getting the hang of it.
Body Pump 70 rocks! Features the toughest tricep since I started training on release 61!!
If you’re stuck finding a different Valentines day present, how about purchasing a 12 month membership for only $649 up front? (the usual price is $899!) As with all great deals there are conditions, the main one being that it is available only from the gym on February the 14th between the hours of 8am – 1pm.

I mentioned in an earlier post that Suzi & I are doing the 160k ride around Lake Taupo in November. Well I’ve decided it’s time to up the training tempo.

After 3 weeks in Italy and 1 in the USA my fitness has dropped significantly. I’ve had a wee chat with my mate Rebecca and we’ll be team teaching Wednesday & Friday @ 6am. This is timed to start on 23rd July. You can expect a lot of fun & variety. See you there!
Jenkins Gym is hosting a 90 minute RPM ride for charity to raise funds for Te Omanga Hospice It will cost $10 per bike and there will be collection boxes at reception so feel free to make a donation
I’m teaching @ 6am that morning but I’ve got my name down for one of the bikes, it’s for a great cause … I hope to see you there!
I’ve used a Polar Heart Rate monitor for the last 3 years and I love them. They give me a quantitative feel to how Im training. Some days I “feel” great and the stats don’t bear it out. It also gives me a reminder when Im over training, basically the calories burned drop despite how hard Im working.
I’ve had to get the battery replaced twice and have never had a problem with the distributors. I always drop it to Brent at Cycle Science. I dropped Suzis off because it wasn’t working and it came back within a week with a note to say they would replace it if it happened again. This is a 3 year old model!
Great service!
Suzi and I had a tougher ride today. The weather was cooler, it rained a bit. I punctured about 40 minutes out. We did the reverse route up over Wallaceville first and then around the back to Blue Mountains. I prefer the normal circuit but Suzi likes to go up Wallaceville as she doesn’t feel she’s got the climbing technique or strength to do Blue Mountain first.
Plus Suzi had a couple of falls the first time up over Blue Mountains and so, is a bit gun shy. I think she’s definitely ready for the Blue Mountains because she just blew me away up Wallaceville hill!! I couldn’t keep up.
We’re both looking to complete the 160k ride around Lake Taupo in November and looking to build a strong cycling base before then.
If you’ve just dropped by to check which RPM & Pump classes I’m teaching, you’ll be a little disappointed. I’ve got 4 weeks vacation from today, 23rd May. Suzi & I are off to lovely Lake Como for a friends wedding.
We’ve got 3 weeks in Italy and 1 week in the USA, Los Angeles methinks, not really too sure, Pismo Beach? I think that’s it.
I might try to find a Body Pump or RPM class/classes while we’re away. Just too see how they compare
